Wigan defender Jason Kerr heroically rescued a cat during his side’s 1-0 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday on February 8.
The heartwarming act of kindness came only hours after distressing footage of Kurt Zouma emerged. The West Ham star was filmed kicking his pet cat across his kitchen floor. He later apologised for his actions.

Zouma has received massive backlash. His club have “unreservedly condemned” his actions. In addition, the RSPCA have described the clip as “upsetting” and encouraged the public to report animal abuse.
The Frenchman was picked to start West Ham’s 3-1 victory over Watford on Tuesday. The decision resulted in further criticism, with the club being urged by fans and animal rights groups, amongst others, to take strong action against the defender.

Later in the day, a heartwarming moment involved Jason Kerr rescuing a cat who had strayed onto the pitch during a match.

It isn’t the first time an animal has set foot on the pitch. And it certainly won’t be the last. But Kerr’s act of kindness will last long in the memory. While his game at Hillsborough was in progress, a cat managed to find its way onto the field of play.
The fact that the animal entered the game during stoppage time didn’t impact the Latics captain’s goodwill.
The 25-year-old attempted to resolve the situation while trying his best not to intimidate the cat, who appeared to enjoy the theatre. It rolled around happily until the ex-St Johnstone captain picked him up. The furry pitch invader looked joyful as Kerr carried him off the pitch before handing him over to a member of the Sheffield Wednesday staff.
The touching video has prompted a massive reaction from the fans, who have tweeted their support to Kerr.
It was an incredibly moving moment, and one for which the Wigan defender was rightly hailed.
