Since returning to The WWE, Cody Rhodes has made a massive splash, but his recent comments on Raw will have left Vince McMahon furious.
At Wrestlemania 38, the former AEW star finally made his long-anticipated comeback. After six years away from the world’s premier wrestling promotion, he received an almighty pop as he defeated Seth Rollins in front of a hyped AT&T Stadium. In the aftermath of his victory, he arrived on Monday Night Raw with a massive point to prove.
The 36-year-old has one target in mind—he wants to become a WWE World Champion. During his first show, he revealed his plan to the crowd.
Rhodes said: “With that in mind, the silence is broken. My intentions are clear. I’ve made them clear for all of you here. I stand before you, ready, finally ready, and I’m going to do it. I’m going to give the distinction that my family has long since been denied. And I’m going to do it for you, I’m going to do it for me, I’m going to do it for my family, and I am going to do it for ‘The American Dream,’ Dusty Rhodes.”
But to get anywhere near challenging Roman Reigns for the strap, he’ll have to prove himself against the best superstars on the roster. And on April 11, he began his journey towards becoming the champion by taking on a wrestling legend.

Cody Rhodes vs The Miz
On his first night back, the two-time AEW title holder dismantled Kevin Owens in a dark match. But his contest against The Miz marked his official return to competition under the Raw brand. The pair squared off in an entertaining contest before Rhodes finished his opponent with a devastating CrossRhodes.
However, although the 36-year-old won the fight, he was bested in the battle of the verbals. It appears that Rhodes had spent too long at AEW because he’d forgotten some of McMahon’s biggest pet peeves.
Prior to their collision, The Miz kindly welcomed his adversary onto an episode of ‘Miz TV’. And although Rhodes referred to the host as “arrogant”, “obnoxious”, and a “full-blown carney”, the two-time WWE titleholder ultimately got the upper hand. The returnee delivered a monologue regarding his intent to win the “belt”. Of course, fans are more than aware that the company chairman despises that word. So it only made sense for The Miz to use that to his advantage in his response.
He replied firmly: “It’s a title. A belt holds up your pants.”
But that wasn’t the only time Rhodes slipped up. After referring to the “superstars” as “wrestlers”, his adversary corrected him again. These jokes went down a storm with hardcore fans who took to YouTube to express their opinion.
WWE fans loved the McMahon nod
One fan said: “Miz schooling Cody for using banned WWE terms was pure GOLD. Miz is simply a WWE dictionary lol.”
While another commented: “I love the fact that Miz is trying to correct Cody like ‘wrestlers’ as ‘superstars’ and ‘Belt’ as ‘Title’ It just makes this segment better.”
A third member of the WWE Universe admitted that he loved watching the pair interact: “Not gonna lie, seeing these two guys together is epic.”
While it appears that Rhodes will pursue a rematch with Rollins, there’s no denying that a long-form rivalry between him and The Miz would make fans happy.
