WWE reportedly contacted ‘notable’ AEW star currently under contract

WWE have reached out to a current AEW star about potentially joining the company, according to new reports.

The news was reported by Fightful Select on Tuesday evening. They state that sources close to the matter say that the talent is under a full-time AEW contract. In addition, the talent reported the contact from WWE to AEW management.

It is also claimed that the talent in question has no desire to leave AEW to go to WWE, and that they did not speak to WWE directly. It is not stated who the talent is – only that they are a ‘notable’ name inside AEW.

The news comes after AEW co-owner Tony Khan rubbished claims that any of his AEW stars under contract were about to join WWE.

He told Busted Open Radio: “I am a little amused that changes in the competition [Triple H becoming WWE head of creative], people think that it’s going to magically change the landscape.

“Some of the narratives that I’ve seen for the last week are really amusing me. I’ve got people signed here for five years. And people think just because the CEO, the Chairman, the Head of Creative, those positions change in the competition, people that I have five-year contracts with are just going to magically switch teams? Good luck with that.

“Adam Cole is signed until about 2027 now. I wouldn’t expect to see him go anywhere, any time soon.”

Who has returned to WWE in recent weeks?

Since Triple H took over from Vince McMahon as head of creative in July, WWE fans have already seen big changes.

‘The Game’ has been focusing on returns in his early weeks in charge. This started at SummerSlam, when former NXT stars Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai were promoted to the main roster. Kai was released by WWE in April.

Furthermore, Karrion Kross, Scarlett, Dexter Lumis, and three members of the Hit Row stable have all returned to WWE.

However, none of the names in question had appeared in AEW since leaving WWE, so they were not under full-time contracts with the promotion. Kross and Scarlett, for instance, appeared on the card of ‘Ric Flair’s Last Match’ the week before re-signing with WWE.
