One of FPL managers’ favourite parts at the start of each season is the chance to re-name your team. Somehow, players come up with ever more creative puns that fellow managers get to enjoy every single year, with 2022/23 no different. If you are looking for inspiration, here are 20 funny fantasy football names that may tickle your fancy.
Looking to music, film, television, and even food for ideas, FPL managers have truly outdone themselves this year with their pun ingenuity.
1. Aaron Wan – Bissaka Nil

Kicking off the list is a classic play on the typical score “1-0”, with the name of a certain Manchester United right-back. Simple, yet effective.
2. Uptown Dunk
Moving on to music now, where the Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars smash-hit blends wonderfully with the name of Brighton defender Lewis Dunk.
3. You Tierney Are Everything
Now, this is a bit of a throwback for the veteran FPL managers. Taking inspiration from the 70s hit “You To Me Are Everything”, Arsenal fans saw the potential with their left-back’s name to make a pun.
4. Stranger Mings

Following some musical team names, we now turn our attention to television. This funny fantasy football name mimics the ever-popular Netflix show “Stranger Things”. It also works for Danny Ings’ name, too.
5. Thomas the Frank Engine
10/10 for creativity on this one. The beloved children’s train makes for a wonderful play on words as Brentford supporters pay tribute to their manager.
6. That’s so Craven
Another childhood TV show now, where Fulham fans who watched the Disney channel might spot the stadium-related pun.
7. Dumb and Dummett

Even Jim Carrey would be proud of this one as one of his most popular films becomes comedic fodder for the Newcastle faithful.
8. The Lion, the Witch, and the Ward-Prowse
Not entirely sure if this will fit in the character limit, to be honest. However, if it does, Saints fans have a cracking name thanks to the Chronicles of Narnia film.
9. Neville Wears Prada

Despite having retired years ago, Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville cannot evade the wrath of an FPL name at his expense. It’s not often that there is a link to Neville and fashion, though. Anne Hathaway’s film provides the pun.
10. Ake Breaky Heart
After butchering some film titles, fantasy football managers turned their funny names back to the music world. Here, the Billy Ray Cyrus classic provides a humorous team title.
11. Blame it on the Brucey
Steve Bruce is no longer in the Premier League, but Magpies fans may still want to “Blame it on the Brucey”. Don’t blame it on the sunshine, moonlight, or good times, though.
12. Schmeichel Jackson

Continuing the Jackson 5 theme, the singer’s name makes for a goalkeeper-related moniker. Whether you choose this in honour of Peter or Kasper is your choice.
13. Don’t look back Tanganga
A former number 1 and Oasis classic makes for a cracking team name for Tottenham Hotspur FPL managers.
14. Earth, Wind and Maguire
Iconic singers of “September” and “Let’s Groove”, Red Devils supporters are truly spoilt for choice when it comes to funny fantasy football names.
15. Rice, Rice, Baby
Finally, we have reached the end of the music puns. Many may remember the viral video of Declan Rice himself giving an interesting rendition of this Vanilla Ice tune.
16. Bowen Arrow
Already known for his accurate shooting, this FPL name pays tribute to the West Ham winger with a comedic pun.
17. Hanging by a Fred
Man United fans will hope that this name does not ring true with their team’s top-four hopes.
18. Werner’s Originals
This time, Chelsea supporters turned to confectionery in honour of their German attacker. It certainly makes a change from the endless “Finding Timo” FPL teams.
19. Sub-Standard Liege
Here, FPL managers have moved away from the English topflight in search of a laugh. The ten-time Belgian champion’s name can be used to reflect how many of us end up performing in Fantasy Premier League.
20. Haven’t Jota Clue

At last, we round out our list thanks to Liverpool fans and Diogo Jota. Again, this is a feeling that many FPL managers may relate to when choosing their squad.
