Alan Shearer praises Brian Brobbey for World Cup display

After conceding late against Japan, Netherlands walked away from their first World Cup group match with a 2-2 draw, and thus, needed to hit the ground running against Sweden, which they did in abundance.

In the fifth minute, Brian Brobbey showcased remarkable pace, bursting into the box, before striking the ball, which had been beautifully delivered by Cody Gakpo, into the back of the net. And it’s fair to say Alan Shearer was blown away with what he saw.

WOW: ALAN SHEARER NAMES THE BEST DEFENDER HE EVER PLAYED AGAINST

During the BBC broadcast, the former striker enthused: “The reason he was brought in was to do this, to be a focal point, and that’s exactly what he did. Great hold-up play, but then just watch his energy and determination to get on the end of it, in the hope that Cody Gakpo can put a brilliant ball in and he did, he’s not going to miss that. That’s why Ronald Koeman made the change, that’s what he wanted him to do, be horrible to play against, be tough, be strong, and get on things in the box.”

To make things even sweeter for Brobbey, in the 17th minute, he bagged a second goal to double his side’s lead.
