Micah Richards believes one partnership could be more lethal than all of the rest at the 2026 World Cup.
Having gone toe-to-toe with an array of dangerous combinations during his own time in the sport, the former Manchester City star knows exactly what he’s looking at.
Micah Richards believes Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak could be the most dangerous duo at the World Cup
In their opening group game, Sweden produced a tremendous performance, hammering Tunisia 5-1. The Nordic nation looked sensational, with both Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak showcasing class in abundance, scoring a goal apiece.
The pair impressed not just fans, but ex-players as well, with Micah Richards waxing lyrical about the icons before Sweden’s clash with the Netherlands.
During the BBC Broadcast, he said: “That style as a defender is so difficult to mark with the movement, one in and one out, who do you go with, who’s got the most pace, who’s better on the ball? And by the time you’ve made that decision, it could be too late. I as a defender, I always liked everything in front of me, because I felt in control, when people start running down the side of the pitch and taking you into areas where you don’t want to be, that’s when it becomes difficult. If they continue to do this throughout the tournament, they could be the deadliest duo in the tournament.”
However, the pair weren’t able to continue their momentum tonight, with the Netherlands defeating them 5-1.
