Alan Shearer has made a massive claim about Man United regarding the Marko Arnautovic transfer saga following the club’s loss against Brentford.
Since the days of Sir Alex Ferguson, the formerly great club have spiralled down the footballing pyramid. Regardless of who holds the managerial reigns, the club appears to fall further with no escape plan in sight.
Just a few months ago, Erik ten Hag lifted his third Eredivisie title, and now he’s standing from the sidelines watching on as his new club concedes four goals in less than 40 minutes. Despite his transfer intent, he hasn’t received the backing he’d have liked. Irrespective of signing Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia, the Dutchman has missed out on several key transfers.
In addition to several weak areas, United desperately lack forward options. This has triggered a Premier League legend to make a significant claim.
Alan Shearer ‘convinced’ Man United are leaking transfer information
Earlier this month, United bid £8 million for Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic. However, after the Italian club turned the offer down, the English side backed down, supposedly due to the backlash from the fans and ex-players.
However, during an appearance on Match of the Day, Shearer accused the club of releasing the information themselves.
As per The Mirror, he said: “I’m convinced that someone from Man United leaked the story linking them with Arnautovic, just to see what the reaction was. The reaction was that bad, they then had to pull out. I’m pretty convinced.
“I think that sort of sums up where United are. They’re in a mess. It’s going to take time, an unbelievable amount of money to get things right inside the football club, and in terms of the right recruitment, and it’s going to take a lot of patience from the Manchester United fans. Because of where they are now, to where they want to be, [they are] miles away.”
