Andy Ruiz Jr recently posted his slimmer physique on social media, highlighting the body transformation he has undergone ahead his upcoming fight against Luis Ortiz in September.
Following his shock win over Anthony Joshua in June 2019, Ruiz was slated to face the Brit for a rematch in December the same year. He turned up to that clash noticeably heavier.
The Mexican-American was defeated by the Brit, who was reinstated as the unified World Heavyweight Champion.
Following his loss to Joshua, Ruiz bluntly explained what went wrong. He said his “tits” stopped him from being able to perform as well as he wanted to on the night.
Ahead of his unanimous victory over Chris Arreola in May 2021, the Mexican said that losing against Joshua was “devastating”, pinpointing that he “did not do the things [he] was supposed to do.”

Ahead of his bout with Arreola, Ruiz lost an incredible 28lbs. He was noticeably slimmer in this fight, which he won by unanimous decision.
Under new trainer Eddy Reynoso, Ruiz has revitalised his career.
“Now I’ve got my mind right, I’ve got a great trainer, so we’re just ready for May 1,” said the 32-year-old ahead of his bout against Arreola.
Now, the Mexican-American will fight Luis Ortiz on September 4 in Los Angeles. In a post on Instagram, the former unified heavyweight champion can be seen planking on a vibrating plate.
Ruiz looks incredibly slim, and he will likely trim down even further ahead of that September fight date.
The video is accompanied by the caption, “Andy Ruiz is in phenomenal shape”, and we can’t help but agree.
Ruiz’s Cuban opponent, however, will be no pushover. Ortiz previously held the WBA interim heavyweight title from 2015 to 2016. It appears, though, that the Mexican is giving himself every chance of success.
He may regret not training hard enough for his second fight with Joshua, but Ruiz’s commitment and physique show that he is taking his upcoming fight very seriously.
