Arsenal 2022/23 home kit ‘leaked’ – and fans are divided in response

The new Arsenal 2022/23 home kit has been ‘leaked’ online – but fans aren’t all convinced by the shirt’s design.

Over the years, Arsenal have predominantly adorned a red shirt with white sleeves as their home shirt.

Fans will remember Tony Adams, Paul Merson and Ian Wright performing miracles in the JVC-sponsored shirts of the 1980s and 1990s, when Arsenal went from nearly-rans to a genuine force in English football under the management of George Graham and Arsene Wenger.

The club then adopted Dreamcast and later O2 as their primary shirt sponsors, as well as experimenting with different shades of red.

But perhaps the club’s finest creation was in the 2005/06 season. To celebrate the final year of Highbury before they moved to the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal wore a redcurrant home shirt throughout the season.

The Gunners have transitioned away from the pure red top and white sleeves combination in recent years.

In addition, the ‘leaked’ 2022/23 home kit has an adapted collar which appears to be commonplace on most adidas shirts for next season. But some fans aren’t entirely convinced by the design as a whole.

The first photos of the Arsenal 2022/23 home kit have emerged, reposted by Footy Headlines.

The club have retained the red and white combo, while their primary sponsor, Emirates, adorns the front of the shirt.

They have opted for the retro-style collar, which is also red and white and has gone down well with supporters. It bears a resemblance to the kits of the late 1990s, a time which saw Arsene Wenger’s side achieve great success.

But some fans have concerns about the shirt. One wrote: “Monochrome badges are rubbish on away shirts, but they are a disgrace on home tops.”

Another said: “I like our current home kits better. Am I alone in feeling this way?”

It has been reported that Arsenal will wear their new home kit for their final home game of the 2021/22 season against Everton on May 19. Other adidas-affiliated clubs, such as Bayern Munich, are doing the same.
