Arsenal icon, Lauren, gives his opinion on Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo

With the Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo debate raging on, Arsenal legend, Lauren, has revealed his stance on who really deserves to describe themselves as the greatest of all time.

Signing for ‘The Gunners’ in 2000, the Cameroonian became an unsung hero for the London club. Filling the void of Lee Dixon, the icon stepped up to the plate and endeared himself to the fans with his incredible performances. Renowned for his pace and footballing IQ, the great played a pivotal role in Arsenal’s history-making ‘Invincibles’ season.

Lauren was responsible for a plethora of memorable moments. During his peak, he produced an epic penalty to secure a 2-1 win over rivals, Tottenham. In addition, he bagged a beautiful spot-kick in the 2005 FA Cup Final against Manchester United.

However, a chain of injuries eventually resulted in the gifted player heading off to Portsmouth. But while he didn’t quite go on to prove what he was capable of, true Arsenal supporters still hold him in the highest of regards. Therefore, his opinion on any matter revolving around the sport is of optimum validity.

Arsenal legend, Lauren, talks Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo

In a debate as fierce as fire, for years, the world has argued over who reigns supreme between the best players to come out of Argentina and Portugal.

With the pair having a plethora of amazing qualities, the argument typically comes down to Messi’s talent and flare or Ronaldo’s work rate and athletism. However, to settle the dispute, Lauren has revealed his verdict, and he’s sided with the PSG superstar.

Speaking with Sports Lens, Lauren said: “Cristiano Ronaldo was my hardest opponent – but Lionel Messi is better.

“In my opinion, I would stick with Lionel Messi because he gives you more as a player. But Cristiano’s mental strength is what has made him into the player he is now, it is what has allowed him to be so successful. But for me, I would choose Messi.”
