Arsenal saw surprise bid rejected for Barcelona star before transfer deadline

In a last-minute transfer move, Arsenal attempted to bolster their front line with a bid for a Barcelona star, but Xavi wouldn’t let his man go.

Despite a disappointing 3-1 loss to Manchester United, ‘The Gunners’ have had a cracking start to the season. After the disappointment of narrowly missing out on Champions League football last season, Mikel Arteta has motivated his men to bounce back, and in some style.

The London club won their first five games of the season and made waves in the transfer window. Supporters welcomed Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira into the side with open arms. But despite doing extremely good business, supporters have been left disappointed after news broke of the Barca manager preventing their chances of securing another top player.

Arsenal miss out on Barcelona star

According to Spanish outlet El Nacional, the Premier League giants put in a €30 million bid for the Spanish international, Ferran Torres. The striker only arrived at the Nou Camp in January for €55m. But with the club falling into a deep financial hole, Arsenal felt they had an opportunity to capitalise.

However, despite initially being keen to sell the player, Xavi demanded that he remain a part of the team. The former midfielder views Torres as a crucial part of his plans going forward and thus refused to let the deal go through, much to the dismay of Arteta.

The 22-year-old, renowned for his pace and flashy skills, has scored seven goals in his 29 appearances for Barca. However, with the addition of Robert Lewandowski, he’s found himself sitting on the bench.

In order to become the force he wants to be, he’ll have to work harder than ever before. But considering the level he went to, to secure the move in the first place, it’s likely he’ll continue to put in 100% effort to make his dream a reality.
