Cristiano Ronaldo has made it abundantly clear that he wants to leave Manchester United, and it’s looking like a move to Atletico Madrid could be in the pipeline.
After more than a decade, the Portuguese sensation finally made his return to Old Trafford last season. Despite his original departure, Ronaldo remained a legend at the club, and fans ran to the club shop in their thousands to get his name on the back of their shirts. However, this time around, his relationship with the club has undeniably soured.
Despite finding the back of the net on 24 occasions, the forward desperately wants to leave the club. After finishing sixth in the Premier League, Ronaldo would have to surrender himself to life without Champions League football if he remains at The Theatre of Dreams. And by the looks of things, that isn’t something he’s willing to do.
Cristiano Ronaldo to move to Atletico Madrid?
It seems his will to leave has pushed the 37-year-old to breaking point. He’s so frustrated with life in England that he’s open to moving to rivals of his old clubs. Ronaldo enjoyed an excellent spell at Real Madrid, winning two La Ligas and four Champions Leagues. But he’s willing to put loyalty aside to force a transfer through to their neighbours Atletico Madrid.
According to The Sunday Times, the Spanish giants would love to have Ronaldo in their dressing room. But to bring him to the Metropolitano Stadium, they’ll need to make a sacrifice.
To free up their wage bill, Atletico have put Antoine Griezmann on the market. The Frenchman is entering the second year of his loan spell, after which the club are obliged to buy him for £34 million at the end of the season.
As per The Sun, the 31-year-old currently makes a whopping £300,000 a week. Whereas Ronaldo makes £360,000, but would reportedly take a 30% pay cut to get the deal over the line.
