EXCLUSIVE: Big E used to dread bumping into John Cena if he’d underperformed in Clash of Clans.
During his esteemed career, the former WWE world champion competed against the best in the business in an array of high-pressure matches, but by the sounds of things, nothing is as terrifying as playing video games with the most successful wrestler to have ever walked the face of the Earth.
Big E hid from John Cena if he’d played badly in Clash of Clans
Big E, John Cena and Cody Rhodes are three of the scariest men in WWE, with the trio all capable of dominating their opponents inside the ring.
But it’s not just in front of the WWE Universe that they go to war, but in the world of gaming as well, with the legends having previously teamed up with Xavier Woods, Rick Victor and legendary actor Stephen Amell, to form a clan on Clash of Clans.
However, while the experience bonded the wrestlers together, it also created huge drama backstage, as one member of the team wasn’t particularly happy when Big E let him down.
In an exclusive interview with Sporf, the icon reminisced: “It was a lot of pressure. I remember times where we would have days where we would attack as a clan and if you had a bad attack or strategy, and it was a TV day, and Cena was gonna be there, there was legit times I’d walk down the hall and I’d see Cena at the other end and I knew he was going to berate me for it, so I’d tuck away in a corner because I didn’t want to deal with it. There was a lot of pressure to get good at it.
“Billy Kidman, John Cena, Cody Rhodes, spent tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars, buying gems. I built my town hall up to a 14, doing it the old-fashioned way, with brick and mortar, going to work every single day, trusting the process, working hard, doing the right things. But we had so much fun playing Clash of Clans.
“Seeing this partnership has been so surreal, especially the commercials and seeing Cody playing as OverlordRhodes, that was his name when we were playing a decade ago, so it’s very cool and full circle to see my friends in commercials with Supercell for Clash.”
Big E makes Cody Rhodes vs John Cena prediction
While Cena’s heel turn was a major surprise for the majority of the WWE Universe, it certainly wasn’t unexpected for Big E, who saw the angry side of the 16x world champion during their days playing Clash of Clans.
But while the all-time great is on the cusp of making history in the WrestleMania 41 main event, his old teammate isn’t convinced he’ll get the job done.
Big E claimed: “We haven’t seen this version of John Cena ever. I don’t know what to make of this. I’ve been so impressed by Cody.
“He has proven that he deserves to be the face of the company. I think a lot of people expect John Cena to break Ric Flair’s record and walk out as world champion. It’s hard to bet against that. But I believe in Cody.
“It’s going to be a great match.”
