Canelo Alvarez makes violent threat towards Lionel Messi

“He’d better pray to god that I don’t find him” Canelo Alvarez rendered furious after Lionel Messi ‘disrespects’ the Mexican flag.

While most would do whatever it takes to stay out of the four-weight world champion’s bad books, it appears the footballer is happy to play with fire. After scoring in Argentina’s 2-0 victory over Canelo’s beloved home nation, the 35-year-old caused controversy in the changing room.

As the forward sang and flicked off his boots, he seemingly kicked a Mexican flag that was on the floor. The incident left Canelo furious. Consequently, he took to social media to express his rage.

The combat sports icon tweeted: “‘Did you guys see Messi cleaning the floor with our jersey and flag?

“He better pray to God that I don’t find him.

“Just like I respect Argentina, he has to respect Mexico!

“I’m not talking about the country as a whole, just about the bulls**t that Messi did.”

However, the Argentinian fanbase, believing the boxing legend to have overreacted, have rallied to their countryman’s support.

Lionel Messi supporters attack Canelo Alvarez

One posted: “He’s [Alvarez] just looking for attention since he’s no longer relevant. Honestly, I never heard of him till now.”

While another added: “He’s clearly taking off his shoes.

Even Canelo’s fellow Mexicans concluded that their hero has gotten it wrong.

One fan said: “They want to break [his] balls and take everything out of context, they are in the locker room celebrating, and they are taking off their boots. Messi is the most humble and never denigrated anyone.”

Another took the same stance: “I agree with you, Messi is going to take off his boot and accidentally touches the shirt, they are taking all this out of context.”

Did Messi really kick the shirt intentionally? You’ll have to watch the video and come to your own surmise.
