Gary Neville makes bleak Chelsea prediction for Tuchel

Another day, another new manager at Chelsea Football Club.

After 18 months in charge, club legend Frank Lampard was let go on Monday, following a poor run of form that has seen the club tumble to ninth in the table.

The dust on that decision had barely settled before Chelsea announced Thomas Tuchel, former PSG and Borussia Dortmund coach, as the new man at the helm.

Tuchel guided PSG to two Ligue 1 titles along with a Champions League final last year. However, his side were beaten by Bayern Munich, and he was sacked by the French giants shortly after. Despite that, he remains one of the most highly-regarded coaches in world football.

Just before his arrival, Gary Neville suggested that it’s inevitable that despite being a great addition to the league, the same conversations that plagued Lampard over the last couple of months, will be surrounding Tuchel within two years of taking over.

“He’s a great addition to the Premier League,” said Neville.

“I honestly sit here today with no feeling of sorry for Frank or any feeling other than that he’s done a really good job,

“It’s Chelsea, that’s what Chelsea do. Frank is not a victim of his poor performance as a manager.”

“Frank is just someone who has been exposed to Chelsea’s model of releasing managers every 12 to 18 months if things don’t go as well as they want. That’s a pretty high standard that they live to.

“I don’t have any worry for Frank’s managerial career, I think he’ll do a brilliant job. I think he’s handled himself fantastically well in that job at Chelsea. That’s a tough job, that one.”

“If Tuchel comes in he will be exposed to exactly the same rules as Frank, and we will be talking about him being let go in the next 18 months to two years, I’m pretty sure of that”

It’s a pretty bleak outlook, though one that’s hardly surprising given Chelsea’s unforgiving nature. Fans will get their first glimpse at the Tuchel era when he takes on Wolves this evening, available to watch on BT Sport from 17:30.
