Chinese news sources are attempting to alter the medal count of the 2020 Summer Olympics to lift China above the United States in the rankings.
When the dust settled on Tokyo 2020 last week the final result was apparent – the United States had pipped China to the post in the official medal standings and were subsequently declared the most successful nation of the Games. In terms of their overall gold, silver & bronze tally they were able to bring in a grand total of 113 medals. That easily took them above China who finished on 88, but as we know, the rankings are determined by who walks away with the most golds.
Sore losers?
The United States ended up with 39 gold medals to ensure they beat China who managed an incredibly respectable 38. It was quite the comeback from the Americans who, throughout most of the Summer Olympics, trailed the Chinese purely due to their lack of golds.
While many have chosen to accept this result, it appears as if a handful of news outlets over in China are determined to try and “shock the system” by including a handful of other golds too.

They’ve done this by including medals from Hong Kong, Taiwan and even Macau, despite the fact that all three are not recognised as being part of the official Chinese Olympic Committee.
It’s been dismissed by the masses as being little more than an attempt to make the nation seem like the winners of the Games, with the focus now shifting to the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
