EXCLUSIVE: Chris Wakelin lived a very different life before he became a snooker star.
Yesterday, the winner of the 2025 Scottish Open, produced a tremendous performance, defeating Liam Pullen, 10-6, to advance to the next round of the competition.
Chris Wakelin used to work for Asda
Long before becoming a Snooker Shoot Out champion, Chris Wakelin was working in Asda, dreaming of one day reaching the goals he’s now achieved.
However, while it was always his ambition to play at the highest level of the sport, he still holds his old profession close to his heart, having thoroughly enjoyed his stint as a delivery driver, crediting his colleagues for helping him get to the position he’s in today.
In an exclusive interview with Sporf, he admitted: “I do still miss working at Asda sometimes. I made some lifelong friends there, and they helped me out so much in the early days, giving me time off to practice and be in Q School when it all started. I have some fond memories of Asda for sure.”
Chris Wakelin knew he had to perform against Liam Pullen
At just 20 years old, Liam Pullen is one of the most exciting prospects in snooker. However, despite his rapid rise, Wakelin refused to give in, battling through what was an initially really close game, to pull away and overcome his gifted opponent.
He explained: “It was really tough out there against Liam. I know what he’s capable of, and he didn’t show any nerves in the first few frames, so I knew I had to play well. I dominated the start of that second session, which broke the back of the match.”
