Clément Lenglet slammed for ‘Embarassing’ error that Lamine Yamal capitalized on in the Champions League

Clément Lenglet has received backlash after making a monumental mistake against Barcelona in the Champions League.

Last week, Atletico Madrid travelled to the Spotify Camp Nou, for the first leg of the quarter-final, and emerged with an impressive 2-0 victory. However, the return fixture hasn’t been quite as smooth sailing.

Clément Lenglet slated for major error

Clément Lenglet is an esteemed player, renowned for his tremendous ball-playing ability and his eye for the perfect pass. Alas, while he’s achieved a lot in his career, tonight won’t go down as one of his greatest memories.

Knowing Barcelona needed to hit the crowd running, just four minutes into the game, Lamine Yamal forced a horrendous blunder from his French opponent. Lenglet attempted a back pass, which bounced off the Spaniard and landed at the feet of Ferran Torres, who effortlessly fed the ball back to Yamal, who then burst forward and slotted the ball through the legs of the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

Of course, fans were quick to head to social media to voice their opinions on the incident.

One wrote: “Clément Lenglet is surely one of the worst defenders in the history of this sport. I wonder how he manages to end up in prestigious clubs all the time.”

While another added: “Lenglet is the weak link.” A third posted: “Lenglet shouldn’t play another minute.”

A fourth said, simply: “Embarrassing.”

While Lenglet has played at an extremely high level, it looked like it was going to take him a while to live this one down, especially after Barcelona scored again to tie things up on aggregate. However, with Atletico bagging its first goal of the night before half-time, the centre-back might get away with the error without it costing his club a place in the final four of the competition.
