There have been some cracking transfer announcement videos in recent years – but we’re not sure anything is going to top this.
Social media has become such a huge part of football over the course of the last decade or so and that’s especially true for Twitter. It’s the kind of platform that can be both full of poison and a whole lot of fun in equal measure, which makes it as entertaining as it is unpredictable.
Alas, many clubs have opted to use it to their advantage, knowing just how much revenue and attention can be generated from one simple tweet. Some hate that fact, but it’s just the way of the world in this era of the sport.
So silly, yet so great
The aforementioned ‘transfer announcement videos’ have fallen into that line of thinking with many of the biggest and best clubs in the game utilising comedy and creativity in the name of making some noise. Still, while the world’s elite may try and lead the way in this department, it’s often smaller teams or ones many of us have never heard of that create the biggest waves.
Case in point: take a look at this outstanding transfer announcement from Maltese side Hamrun Spartans.
They’ve officially signed Luke Gambin, a 28-year-old winger who was born in England but plays for Malta at the international level. He’s spent his entire career up to this point in English football but now, he’s made the switch over from Colchester United to the Spartans.
The clip above, as if it needs further explaining, serves as quite the tribute to the one and only Michael Jackson with Gambin getting the chance to show off a lighter side of his personality.
Let’s just hope he’s as efficient in front of goal as he is on the dancefloor.
