Documentary shows Guardiola fascinated by geese formations

Manchester City have released a new documentary titled ‘Together’, which looks at the final 46 days of last season.

City won the Premier League in early May, before contesting the Champions League final against Chelsea at the end of that month.

Pep Guardiola‘s side would eventually fall short in Porto. They lost 1-0 to a Kai Havertz first-half goal.

But it was still an immensely successful season for City, set amongst the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic and restrictions.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the documentary gives new insight into the togetherness of the City squad – including their club dinners and table tennis sessions.

Guardiola’s geese fascination

One of the more interesting parts of the documentary is the moment in which Guardiola becomes fascinated by the formation of geese in mid-air.

Geese traditionally fly in a V shape. That is done to conserve their energy and ensure that it is easy to keep track of every bird in the formation.

The City boss saw the formation whilst reviewing drone-captured training footage. He noticed similarities between the birds and the way squads should behave together.

City players and staff chose their captain and vice-captain last season, after David Silva departed for Real Sociedad.

Fernandinho was appointed as club captain, whilst Kevin de Bruyne was selected as vice-captain.

Upon the selection, Guardiola said: “Players and staff vote on the captains.

“He [Fernandinho] will be good, as he always has done since I met him.

“Sometimes I have captains, it doesn’t matter with the armband, being the first captain, he always leads in the bad moments.

“We decided in the locker room, the players, the backroom staff, we decided that Fernandinho is Man City captain and I am more than happy with that.”

The new documentary, ‘Together’, is released globally on YouTube next Thursday.
