Conor McGregor posts WrestleMania 38 boast; WWE stars hit back

With WrestleMania 38 dominating headlines this weekend, UFC star Conor McGregor couldn’t help but get his name involved somehow. The Irishman tweeted about the event, prompting responses from some of WWE’s top stars.

The biggest event of the wrestling year was full of incredible moments. ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin made an emotional return to the ring after 19 years. He beat Kevin Owens in a ‘No holds Barred’ battle on Saturday night. Austin’s amazing in-ring return will undoubtedly live long in the memory of WWE fans.

Another comeback happened on Saturday night. Returning from rival promotion AEW, Cody Rhodes was revealed as the mystery opponent for Seth Rollins. Rhodes came out on top against Rollins in one of the matches of the weekend.

WrestleMania, as ever, settled some scores too. Bianca Belair defeated Becky Lynch to win the RAW Women’s Championship, and Roman Reigns finally broke his WrestleMania duck against Brock Lesnar.

With fans going crazy for the event on social media, Conor McGregor tried to tag onto the popularity with a tweet of his own.

Conor McGregor on WrestleMania

‘The Notorious’ tweeted about the ‘Show of Shows’, asking his followers a rhetorical question.

“Why wasn’t I at WrestleMania?” asked McGregor. “They all fear me, that’s why.”

McGregor has previously hinted at a possible switch to the WWE once he finishes his illustrious UFC career. Unfortunately, any potential move to a different sport has to wait until his contract finishes with the UFC. McGregor would need Dana White’s permission to do anything like a WrestleMania appearance whilst under contract with the MMA company.

However, that hasn’t stopped the Irishman from getting the attention of WWE’s stars. His boast received a mixed reaction from the wrestling world.

WWE stars respond

Former WWE champion Drew McIntyre was not impressed by McGregor’s tweet. He bluntly responded: “Shut up McTapper.”

Other wrestlers were similarly dismissive of the Irishman. Dolph Ziggler joked about McGregor’s smaller stature compared to WWE wrestlers, saying “Even I can’t cut down to flyweight.” Included in his mocking response was a gif of a wrestler throwing around a child.

However, other WWE stars welcomed a potential appearance by Conor McGregor. For instance, Irish compatriot Becky Lynch asked if McGregor would be interested in next year’s show of shows.

“Hey man. I could have used you,” tweeted Lynch, in reference to her loss to Bianca Belair. “Bianca brought an army. Next year?”

McGregor has claimed that he has two fights left on his UFC contract. Following them, he would be free to venture into the wrestling world.

Maybe a Conor McGregor appearance at next year’s WrestleMania could happen.
