Conor McGregor has said he’s going to “punish” Dustin Poirier for some of his recent remarks as they prepare for their trilogy fight.
Ever since Poirier knocked out McGregor at UFC 257 in January, fans have been waiting for the two to lock horns yet again. Now, six months later, we’re just a matter of days away from the two rivals finally settling the score in what will be their third meeting inside the octagon.
The war of words continues
They’re both locked at 1-1 with the expectation being that the winner will go on to fight for the UFC lightweight title later this year. Either way, though, this is expected to be a very different bout to the January rematch, mainly because McGregor appears to be reverting back to his trash talk ways.
After a parade of words was exchanged over social media in the last couple of months, Conor took to Instagram Live to give his supporters an insight into his mindset before UFC 264.
“He talks some amount lately,” McGregor said. “He’s going to pay for that, that’s for sure. That’s not going to be nice.”
There are many different comments that Conor could be referring to but regardless of which way you look at it, this is starting to feel like the UFC’s biggest event and non-title fight in a long time.
McGregor will continue to try and get into Poirier’s head whereas Dustin will try to stay calm and composed – something he’s struggled with in the past against Conor.
At the end of the night on Saturday, there can only be one lightweight left standing, and we can’t picture a world in which this one goes to the judges’ scorecards.
Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor 3 will be the main event UFC 264 this weekend at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
