Cristiano Ronaldo allegedly smashes child’s phone after Everton game, posts statement

Cristiano Ronaldo has released a statement after appearing to smash a young fan’s phone after Manchester United’s defeat to Everton.

‘The Red Devils’ have officially entered crisis mode following an uninspiring performance. The Manchester club hosted Leicester the previous week and failed to secure all three points. But with ‘The Toffees’ facing relegation, it looked like United had the perfect opportunity to bounce back with a big win.

However, just 27 minutes into the game, Anthony Gordon fired an absolute thunderbolt of a shot past David De Gea, and the thirteen-time Premier League champions crumbled. They only produced four shots on target throughout the game and never really looked like scoring.

This season United have failed to hit the back of the net consistently, let alone pick up any sort of form. At the start of the campaign, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took the bulk of the blame. Fans believed that he lacked the managerial experience to take the side forward. But since the club relieved him of his duties, nothing has changed.

Ralf Rangnick has failed to whip the lads into shape, and perhaps that’s because of the squad’s attitude. But when other players failed to perform, the team have relied on Ronaldo to give it his all. You can’t remain at the pinnacle of the sport at 37-years-old unless you’re supremely dedicated.

The Portuguese winger trains harder than any other player, engaging in gym workouts before and after training. Pundits often praise the footballing icon for his leader-like qualities, but after the game, he appalled the public with his shocking demeanour.

Cristiano Ronaldo appears to smash a fan’s phone

In the aftermath of the fixture, the United squad were frustrated by the result. But it appears that Ronaldo was angrier than the rest. As he walked towards the tunnel, a fan-recorded video appears to show him smashing a phone out of a child’s hand.

The videos below show the incident.

The event unsurprisingly upset the youngster, who allegedly had his phone destroyed and his hand bruised by the United forward.

His mother took to social media to reveal her story, which you can see below.

She said: “Well, a lovely game at the match turned into me and Jake with the police. Can’t believe I’m saying this, but RONALDO smashed Jake’s phone out of his hand while he recorded him coming off at full-time. I’m shocked that a professional footballer can assault a child like this.

“If anyone can get any videos of this for me, I believe they’re on Instagram already. I’m not on there. Please share. These football players are thugs. He’s a dad himself. How would he feel if this was done to his kid.”

In an interview with The Liverpool Echo, she elaborated: “I was crying, I was shook up, Jacob was in complete shock – he’s autistic, and he’s got dyspraxia as well, so he didn’t really digest what was happening until he’s come home now.”

Cristiano Ronaldo apologies for smashing the fan’s phone

The sportsman has since addressed the incident by posting an apology on his Instagram page.

He said: “It’s never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments such as the one we are facing. Nevertheless, we always have to be respectful, patient and set the example for all the youngsters who love the beautiful game. I would like to apologise for my outburst and, if possible, I would like to invite this supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair play and sportsmanship.”

Merseyside Police are currently liaising with Manchester United and Everton and urging anyone with any information to get in touch.
