Cristiano Ronaldo will have one more match for Portugal before calling time on his international career.
Following his country’s defeat to Spain in the Last 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2026, the superstar confirmed his time competing on the grandest stage of them all is over. However, he still wants to say farewell to his fans the right way.
Cristiano Ronaldo will play his last match for Portugal against Wales
At the peak of his powers, Cristiano Ronaldo was nothing short of terrifying, with the flashy footballer dazzling fans with his remarkable dribbling skills and sensational eye for goal.
Not only has he performed magnificently in the club game, but also internationally, with the Portuguese icon helping guide his side to victory at Euro 2016.
Alas, at the age of 41, his best days are firmly in the rearview mirror, with many believing that the freak athlete is now actually a hindrance to his national side.
WOW: Arjen Robben was more difficult to play against than Cristiano Ronaldo, says ex-Liverpool star
It seems he’s accepted that he can’t go on forever, with the all-time great conceding that he won’t play at the FIFA World Cup 2030.
However, Mohammed Awaad claims that we’ll still see Ronaldo represent his country one last time before he hangs up the red and green jersey forever.
The journalist posted on X: “Will it be the last match?
“I was talking with one of the Portuguese business agents, and he told me what he believes is ‘news’ that Ronaldo will retire internationally after one match with Portugal.
“He says: ‘He’ll play against Wales in the UEFA Nations League, the match will be at the home of Lisbon club, Jose Alvalade’.
“His justification is that it’s a match at the stadium where he started, and where Ronaldo will show up to bid farewell to the Portuguese national team, then the international story ends.”
Portugal will play Wales on September 24.
