Deontay Wilder has posted a bizarre video, in which he enjoys a cuddle and a chinwag with the statue that was erected in his honour last year in his hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Following his seventh-round KO defeat at the hands of Tyson Fury back in February 2020, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ entered one of the most difficult spells of his life. Struggling to deal with the defeat, the American blamed everything from tampered gloves to the weight of his suit.
Sick of his excuses, the fans turned against him. But in the final contest of the trilogy, he more than redeemed himself. While he once again failed to topple ‘The Gypsy King,’ he showed enormous heart and reminded people why he’s become the most fearsome puncher in heavyweight history.
While still devastated by the defeat, Wilder used the statue as motivation to return to the ring. And in October, he bounced back with a devastating stoppage finish over ‘The Nordic Nightmare’ Robert Helenius.
The stunning victory indicated that the 37-year-old has plenty left in the tank. Therefore, boxing enthusiasts can’t wait to see him back in the ring, most likely against former world champion, Andy Ruiz Jr.
But in anticipation of his next outing, he went to visit his bronze friend.

Deontay Wilder hugs his statue
In the bemusing clip, the elite athlete engaged his statue in a hug before conducting what can only be described as an incredibly one-sided conversation.
He said: “How you doing? Merry Christmas, Happy New Year to you. You doing alright? That’s good, you been holding up? You look cold right there. I’m going to have to get you a blanket and warm you up.”
He continued, “But other than that, you’re looking good, man. I’m proud of you and everything you’ve done. More to do, though; I’ll see you soon, alright?”
While some found his behaviour unusual, others enjoyed his ‘self-love’ attitude. But if there was any debate about his normality, at the end of the video, Wilder releases an incredibly loud moan, confirming his personality as very peculiar.
But regardless, as abnormal as his actions are, he still hits like a forklift truck, and consequently, fans all over the world, are looking forward to his next thunderous knockout.
