A leak of the fourth kit that FC Barcelona may use in 2022/23 has appeared online – alongside info regarding when they might wear it.
The Blaugrana appear to be preparing a kit that will honour their Catalan roots.
Previously, Barca have had strips featuring “La Senyera” – the flag of Catalonia, the autonomous area of Spain where Barcelona is located.
Now, it appears that the club will once again don the famous flag of their region.
According to a leak from Footy Headlines, Barcelona are going to unveil a brand new “Senyera” fourth kit for 2022/23.
In recent years, the club has recycled an existing style that they debuted in 2019/20.
Last season, the shirt proved a stroke of luck – they thrashed Real Madrid 4-0 whilst wearing it.
Per Spanish outlet SPORT, this new strip could make its first outing as soon as this weekend.
On Saturday (28 January), Barca plays fellow Catalan side Girona in La Liga. So, it would make sense to utilise the fresh design honouring the region during a local derby.
But what will the shirt look like, according to leaks?
Leaked: the Barcelona “Senyera” fourth kit
Like previous “Senyera” shirts, Nike have given the Barcelona fourth kit a bright yellow base colour.
Then, mimicking the regional flag, the reportedly leaked 2022/23 strip has four red stripes emblazoned across the chest.
Interestingly, unlike their other kits, this fourth option has a central club crest. The Barcelona badge sits in the middle of the chest, over the “Senyera” red stripes. Also in the centre of the kit is the Spotify shirt sponsor – a new addition this season.
Nike have placed their swoosh logo on the sleeves of the shirt this time, in a navy colour.
Striped sleeve cuffs in traditional Blaugrana colours provide a touch of contrast, too.
This striking new design signals a big change from the previous “Senyera” kits. Last season, Barca utilised their fourth strip from the past three campaigns which was also a bright yellow.
However, that particular design had four red “claw marks” to pay homage to the Catalan flag.
Prior to this, the 2013/14 away and 2014/15 fourth kits featured the stripes of “La Senyera”.
Barcelona take pride in being from the region; previous home shirts have also had subtle elements of the flag.
But, in terms of their 2022/23 fourth kit tribute, Barcelona are yet to provide any official confirmation.
However, if they are going to use it on January 28, there should be an announcement soon.
