The natural-born goal scorer was originally set to miss his country’s Last 16 fixture against Belgium, but that is no longer the case.

Donald Trump praises FIFA for handling Folarin Balogun ‘injustice’

Folarin Balogun received his marching orders during the Round of 32 after he stamped on an opponent’s ankle. Following the match, the American, who claims the foul was accidental, refuted the idea that it should have been a red.

Regardless, the ban has been suspended for a year. FIFA made the following statement: “By operation of Article 27 FDC, the implementation of the automatic match suspension for USA player Folarin Balogun is suspended for a probationary period of one [1] year.”

During a post on X, reporter Ben Jacobs claimed that: “The White House made a direct call to FIFA to ask Gianni Infantino to review Folarin Balogun’s red card.”

Jacobs continued: “FIFA approached for comment and referred to the findings of its independent committee.

“FIFA sources insist White House influence could not affect the decision due to the powers contained in Article 27 and the independent nature of the disciplinary panel.”

Following the announcement of the verdict, Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social account: “Thank you to FIFA for doing what was right, and reversing a great injustice!”
