EXCLUSIVE: Phil De Fries believes he’s come up with the perfect ruleset for a showdown with Eddie Hall.
The gifted mixed martial artist has proven himself to be one of the most terrifying heavyweights on the planet, having defended his title 13 times in one of Europe’s biggest promotions.
Phil De Fries pitches cage-boxing fight to Eddie Hall
On Saturday night, Phil De Fries will put his belt on the line at XTB KSW 117, against Marcin Wójcik, inside the COS Torwar in Warszawa, Poland.
Should he emerge from the contest unscathed, then the Englishman would revel in the opportunity to go head-to-head with Eddie Hall. However, having accumulated far more experience in mixed martial arts than the 2017 World’s Strongest Man, the powerhouse has suggested an interesting way he could settle his differences with ‘The Beast’.
When asked about whether he’d take on Hall during an exclusive interview with Sporf, De Fries replied: “I’d love to. He called me out. You kind of have to earn a shot at the KSW title. We could do a freak fight, like cage-boxing, that would give him a bit more of a chance. I think in a full MMA fight, I don’t think he’d have much of a chance. I’m pretty good, and he’s not really an MMA fighter. I thought Mariusz Pudzianowski was gonna beat him, so he is good, but I’m definitely up for that one. That would be a good one.”
Phil De Fries predicts stoppage victory at XTB KSW 117
While De Fries would love to battle it out with Hall, for now, his focus is firmly set on Wójcik. However, while the 39-year-old rates his opponent highly, he doesn’t foresee the contest going the distance.
De Fries predicted: “He’s a great all-rounder. He’s dangerous everywhere, but he’s a lot smaller than me. When I rehydrate, I’ll probably be 20KG heavier than him. It’s a tough fight, but I’m always feeling confident, I’m going to get on him straight away like I always do, and go for the early finish, two rounds hopefully.”
