Edge cut promo after WWE Raw, revealed retirement plans

WWE Hall of Famer Edge has revealed early plans for his retirement during a promo at Monday Night Raw in Toronto.

One of the company’s biggest stars, Edge has had a completely unique career. His best years occurred throughout the 2000s, where he won 12 World Tag Team championships alongside some legends of the ring.

Additionally, Edge is a five-time WWE Intercontinental Champion, as well as holding the World Heavyweight Championship on seven occasions.

Sadly, a severe, persistent neck injury forced ‘The Rated-R Superstar’ into retirement back in 2011. However, after a nine-year hiatus, he returned to the ring in 2020, surprising everyone by entering that year’s Royal Rumble.

Last night, Edge entertained fans in his native Canada in a match against Damian Priest on Monday Night Raw.

The Hall of Famer gave his home crowd plenty to cheer about during his battle with The Judgement Day wrestler. Initially, Priest appeared to have an early advantage, getting the better of Edge and antagonizing the audience.

But the Canadian was soon back in the match, launching his opponent out of the ring. The battle then stayed outside the squared circle briefly, with Edge jumping off the top rope and Priest throwing his opponent through the announcer’s table.

As the match reached its climax, Priest tried to hit Edge with a Con-chair-to, but he managed to roll out.

Eventually, it looked like Priest would upset the crowd by taking the victory. After whacking Edge with a chair leg, he tried to secure the pin on his opponent. Thankfully, Edge managed to kick out of it at the last second.

He then hit Priest with a Canadian destroyer and a spear before pinning him for the win. Following the victory in front of the Toronto faithful, Edge gave WWE fans an insight into his retirement plans.

Edge outlines WWE retirement ideals

Edge cut an emotional promo, saying that the fans were why he wanted to get back in the ring at all. However, the WWE legend then broke hearts by indicating his desire to retire after one more match in “The Six”.

“I can’t wait to come back, hopefully, one last time, one last time here in Toronto,” admitted Edge, via Wrestling Observer. “I’m looking at the calendar, and we usually come here in August. So next August, I plan on seeing each and every one of you. And, in a perfect world, we all say goodbye to each other that night.

“Hey, but that’s okay, man. This is the place for me to do it, okay?”

It appears that WWE fans can at least have a full 12 months of ‘The Rated-R Superstar’ before he decides to ride off into the sunset. When he does, though, he will be a significant character to replace in the WWE Universe.
