In addition to implementing a strict set of rules at Man United, Erik ten Hag has prevented the players from enjoying a trip to the studios of popular soap opera Neighbours, according to reports.
The popular soap, which launched the careers of the likes of Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Margot Robbie, will officially come to an end this month after a historic 37-year-run. But the Daily Mirror say that, despite the opportunity for some of the players to visit the set, United’s new boss instantly nipped the idea in the bud.
Since his arrival at Old Trafford, the 52-year-old has worked tirelessly to set a new standard at the struggling Manchester club. According to The Sun, he’s laid down a series of rules, such as always working to your maximum potential and only passing forward. And thus far – although it is early days – his techniques appear to be working.
United’s pre-season tour couldn’t have started much better. They defeated rivals Liverpool 4-0 in a match that gave fans glimpses of what they can expect under Ten Hag. Furthermore, the side continued their resurgence against Melbourne Victory in an impressive 4-0 victory.
One of Ten Hag’s main rules at United is the development of discipline. In order to play your best, you have to commit yourself 100%. Therefore, you have to miss out on other opportunities.
Erik ten Hag turns down Man United-Neighbours extravaganza
Whilst on pre-season tours, the players usually get the chance to fulfil commercial and charitable commitments. However, Ten Hag has insisted that these obligations must not affect the squad’s focus.
Therefore, when MUTV suggested filming the players on the set of the renowned Aussie soap opera, which is recorded just outside of Melbourne, the Dutch coach categorically turned it down.
Although the players will have undoubtedly cried their tears over missing out on the place Kylie Minogue made her mark, it will surely play to their advantage in the long run.
