Rory McIlroy heads into this week’s US Open as one of the prime candidates for victory – but how many PGA Tour wins has he had going into the event?
The US Open is one of four Majors in golf’s yearly calendar. The other majors are The Masters, The PGA Championship and The Open.
Over 150 golfers will be in the field for this year’s event. It will take place at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts. The club has held the event on three previous occasions.
McIlroy will be one of the favourites, but he will face some tough competition. Defending champion Jon Rahm is also competing, whilst world number one Scottie Scheffler won The Masters in April. He finished three strokes ahead of the Northern Irishman.
Also competing will be the ‘rebel’ golfers who joined the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series last week. Although the PGA Tour have suspended the memberships of the players involved, who include Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson, they can still play in majors.
But McIlroy may take some beating. That is because he goes into the event, which starts on June 16, off the back of winning the RBC Canadian Open on Sunday. He finished on 19-under-par, two shots ahead of second-placed golfer Tony Finau.
How many PGA Tour wins does Rory McIlroy have?
After his success in Montreal, Rory McIlroy now has a total of 21 event wins on the PGA Tour.
His RBC Canadian Open win was his first on tour during this calendar year. His last victory came in October 2021, when he won the CJ Cup.
McIlroy has four Major wins to his name, including a famous eight-shot victory at the US Open in 2011. However, the Northern Irish golfer has not won a major since 2014.
