From Logan Paul to Bad Bunny and even Donald Trump, celebrity crossovers and WWE have been one of the most successful tag teams of all time. And former Universal Champion Kevin Owens has his sights set on another A-Lister.
Owens is fresh off a historic WrestleMania main event against the returning Stone Cold Steve Austin. And he does have a history with celebs inside the squared circle. He stunnered Logan Paul at last year’s ‘Mania and, more extremely, powerbombed Machine Gun Kelly off the entrance stage on Raw back in 2015.
But those run-ins are not enough for the Prizefighter, who watched his best friend and longtime opponent Sami Zayn grab a ton of headlines recently for his WrestleMania feud with Jackass star Johnny Knoxville.
Kevin Owens Sets Sights on Oscar Winner
Speaking during WrestleMania weekend in Dallas on the eve of his monumental ‘Mania moment with his lifelong hero, KO was noticeably buzzing about the match. He also felt excited for Zayn, whom he developed with on the independent scene, then feuded with through Ring of Honor, NXT and finally, the main WWE roster.
But which celebrity does Owens want to step inside the squared circle with?
“Matthew McConaughey came to one of our shows a few years ago and really seemed to enjoy himself. After that, I read an interview where he said his kids are really big fans, and he’s a big fan and would like to do something in the ring eventually. He’s one of my favourite actors. I would love to get to mix it up with him in some way because I think he’s really cool, and I think he’d do great here, actually.
“Y’know, there are people from the outside, celebrities, who come in with a great attitude and have a great experience. Johnny Knoxville’s been one of them, Logan Paul; those guys have the right mindset when they come here.
“I think Matthew McConaughey would come in with the same kind of energy, so I would love to get the chance to do something with him.”
Until then, though, Kevin Owens has his hands full attempting to prove to the world that new WWE superstar Ezekiel is not the younger brother of the AWOL Elias and is, in fact, the former Drifter himself.
If he can accomplish that, then his next feud might be alright, alright, alright.
