Rio Ferdinand has listed a few transfer mistakes he believes Louis van Gaal made during his time at Manchester United.
Ferdinand, who left United in May 2014, actually departed the club just one week before van Gaal took over from David Moyes. LVG was at Old Trafford for two years before being sacked just days after winning the FA Cup.
“We got rid of good people”
Still, even if they didn’t overlap, Rio got to know how things worked at Manchester United pretty well across his 12-year stay.
During a recent episode of his Vibe With FIVE podcast, Ferdinand mentioned some names that he thinks van Gaal should’ve kept on the books.
“I thought we got rid of good people in Hernandez, Welbeck and Rafael,” he said. “They were good United people with character.

“They wanted to play for Manchester United and knew what it meant. They wanted to win and they were part of that previous era that knew how to win.
“They could have carried that on and given it to other people. It was their turn and their chance to pass it on.
“But I thought Manchester United wasn’t set up in the way that they probably are today. They wouldn’t allow that to happen today.”
Ever since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club, Manchester United have been accused of lacking the necessary tools to consistently succeed at the highest level.
Some are of the belief that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is rekindling that identity. However, others don’t feel like he is the right man for the job – despite their strong season thus far.
Louis van Gaal’s tenure at United doesn’t seem to have aged particularly well in the eyes of supporters despite that FA Cup victory being one of the few high points in recent years for the club.
