EA Sports have updated their code to add five new icons to FIFA 22, according to a prominent Twitter user familiar with the franchise.
The Twitter account @FutWatch made the claim earlier this week, and says that each of the five players has three versions in the code.
Each FUT icon has three different playable cards, each representing a different stage of their careers.
Who could be included as FIFA 22 icons?
@FutWatch says that the five players added are Iker Casillas, Cafu, Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Alfredo di Stefano.
If it is indeed true that these players will be included as FIFA 22 icons, they will surely be well received.
Rooney is England and Manchester United‘s record goalscorer, whilst van Persie was a star striker in the Premier League for Arsenal and United.
Casillas holds a host of Champions League and LaLiga records from his time as Real Madrid goalkeeper. Cafu won the World Cup twice.
Di Stefano’s impact at Real in the 1950s and 60s, meanwhile, has made him arguably the club’s greatest ever player. With the striker in the side, the Spanish giants won five consecutive European Cups between 1956 and 1960.
All five have glittering CVs, then. If there are no changes to the current crop of icons in the game, the five players would make the total number of icons stand at 106.
11 new icons were added to the original release of FIFA 21, including Eric Cantona, Samuel Eto’o and Xavi.
David Beckham was later added to the game, and players received a free 86-rated Beckham card which celebrated his time at Real Madrid.
FIFA 22 is expected to be released in September or October, as is traditional with the series.
Last year, FIFA 21 was pushed back to an October 9 release due to the Covid-19 pandemic. EA also made the decision not to release a demo. It is unclear whether the same will occur this time around.
