He’s had a busy summer with plenty of highs and lows but one thing remains true through it all – Harry Kane is one of the best strikers in the world.
The 28-year-old has been regularly compared to many of his generational peers but in a lot of ways, those comparisons are redundant. The Englishman has his own unique style that seems to work pretty well all things considered and given his age, there are reasonable arguments to be made that he could be competing at the elite level for at least five more years.
Alas, when he does eventually decide to retire, we’d imagine fans will expect to see a few of these ‘bucket list’ items ticked off well in advance.
Leaving Tottenham
It’s not a conversation many Tottenham Hotspur supporters want to have but it’s a reality they were faced with just a matter of weeks ago.
Manchester City appeared to be on the verge of signing Kane to a long-term deal only for the rug to be pulled out at the last moment, leaving many to wonder whether Harry is actually still happy in North London. Based on his mannerisms ever since that all went down, we’d argue the answer is no.
All-time England top scorer
If Kane can score 14 more goals for the Three Lions then he’ll have officially surpassed Wayne Rooney’s tally of 53 for the English national team. That, in itself, is quite the achievement and will mark a significant shift in how we view forwards at this level.
It may not be enough to earn him a trophy in itself but getting past someone like Rooney deserves plenty of plaudits regardless of which club you support.

Winning club silverware
Harry Kane has received three competition-based medals during his club career – two runner-up runs in the League Cup and one in the Champions League. We’re all starting to associate him with the idea of getting close but not quite being able to get over the finish line, and sooner rather than later, he surely has to break that curse and finally get his hands on either a domestic cup, a league title or something in Europe.
Break Shearer’s record
Alan Shearer scored 260 Premier League goals in 441 appearances across his time with Blackburn and Newcastle whereas Harry Kane has thus far netted 166 in 247. The ratio indicates Kane is on track to edge past the Geordie legend before finally calling it a day, and whether it be with Tottenham, City or another English side, we’d say this crowning moment should be expected.
International tournament success
The penalty shootout loss to Italy at Wembley was heartbreaking but it’s also in the past. England have made it to a semi-final and a final in their last two major tournaments so, naturally, expectations are high heading into next year’s World Cup in Qatar.
With Kane at the forefront and with him probably having three or four more chances to win the WC or Euros, he’s well-positioned to help make this happen.
