Floyd Mayweather reportedly open to buying Newcastle United

Floyd Mayweather achieved just about everything there was to achieve in the boxing ring, retiring with a perfect 50-0 record having won titles across five different weight classes.

Now the 43-year-old could be turning his attentions to a surprising career move – buying Newcastle United Football Club.

The former champ made the surprising comments during his ‘an evening with’ appearance at the 02 City Hall in Newcastle.

The conversation briefly switched to football and Floyd was reportedly asked whether he’d consider taking over from the current controversial ownership.

“In the US we call it soccer but the Newcastle football team is an unbelievable team.” The boxer responded.

“If the people want me to buy the Newcastle team let me know.”

According to TMZ, representatives of Mayweather confirmed his interest was genuine, though no official conversations have been held.

Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather has made no secret of the wealth he accumulated during his coveted boxing career and it’s well documented that fans have never been happy with Mike Ashley at the helm of the club.

Back in January, reports began to circulate that a consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman were set to table an offer for the club, things have gone quiet on that front though.
