Formula 1 have announced a new management-based video game titled F1 Manager 2022, which is slated to hit shops this summer.
The rise of sports management games is already very well-documented. Almost every young football fan has played Football Manager at one point or another. There are also several management video games in the cricket and basketball worlds, to name a few.
F1 fans haven’t had an officially licensed management game for over 20 years. However, that is about to change.
A history of F1 management games
F1 Manager 2022 will be the first taste of an officially licensed racing management simulation for many fans. However, some veteran gamers will remember a number of games released between 1995 and 2000.
Grand Prix Manager, released by MicroProse, hit shops in 1995, thus incentivising its sequel, Grand Prix Manager 2, in 1996.
EA even released a game called F1 Manager in 2000, where players take control of a team for 10 years.
There have also been several iterations of the Motorsport Manager series in recent times, which have been met with critical acclaim. However, the games have never featured an official Formula 1 license, and gamers had to install mods to replicate the real F1 experience.
What has been said about the new F1 Manager 2022 videogame?
Formula 1 Managing Director Ross Brawn released a statement, via the F1 official website, on the upcoming game’s release.
“It’s great to see F1 Manager 2022 take shape and for people to see this exciting title come to life,” he said.
“I know from personal experience that leading a team can be challenging, but it’s certainly rewarding. The F1 Manager franchise is a great opportunity for fans to put themselves in the shoes of a team principal and experience some of that for themselves.
“I am confident that with their own successful track record in management gaming, Frontier will deliver an enjoyable and engaging experience for fans.”
According to the statement, fans who play the game can expect to step into the role of team leader. In addition, players will have a 360-degree view of the team, allowing them to look at car upgrades, driver contracts and a host of other features.
Steam has also provided a run-down on some of the game’s new features. F1 Manager 2022 allows you to be at the wheel or leading the team. There is also the option to build your car, making this potentially the perfect game for all F1 fanatics.
