Following his loan move to Besiktas, Dele Alli has received some words of wisdom from Everton boss Frank Lampard.
When the ex-England international arrived on the scene in 2015, he blew the Premier League away with Tottenham Hotspur. His pace, skill and outright ability to excel in any area of the game, set him apart from any other prospect in the sport.
The player’s sublime performances saw him win back-to-back PFA Young Player of the Year awards. Consequently, fans expected his meteoric rise to continue to head in a positive trajectory. However, a mixture of distractions off the pitch and being played in the wrong area, have seen his career crumble to the ground.
Alli eventually left Spurs, and signed for Everton. But he struggled to recapture his past form. The midfielder hasn’t provided a goal contribution in 13 games. Ultimately, this has cost him his place in the team, and his Toffees manager has decided to move him on to Turkey.
Frank Lampard gives Dele Alli honest advice
The 26-year-old still has time to get his career back on the right track. But if he doesn’t start to take the initiative soon, his hopes and dreams could come to an irreversible conclusion.
For Frank Lampard, sending Dele Alli on loan to Besiktas wasn’t easy. However, he felt it was necessary to help the midfielder rediscover his ambition.
Following the announcement of the deal, the Everton boss spoke candidly about his opinion on the playmaker.
As per The Mirror, he said: “Look, I do have great empathy for the trajectory of his career in a sense. Because it is just clear to see – I don’t have to dress that up in any way.
“So, having worked closely with him for a period, I have to say he really does need to understand the relation of training and focus at the highest level. To what that means to performance. I actually know on a personal level what training can do and focus can do, and that’s something he really has to take on board.”
