Glen Johnson reveals the one player Liverpool need to sign

It’s fair to say Liverpool haven’t looked their best this season, but according to Glen Johnson, they only need one special ingredient to turn things around.

In 2021/22, Liverpool nearly pulled off what could’ve been the greatest season in English history. But in the blink of an eye, a potential quadruple halved into an underwhelming double, as ‘The Reds’ completely capitulated in the Premier League and lost out in the Champions League Final, courtesy of a borderline inhumane performance from Thibaut Courtois.

Unsurprisingly, that level of heartbreak has had its repercussions.

In the early portion of this season, the Merseyside club looked a shadow of their former selves, with Jurgen Klopp struggling to pinpoint the issues that were preventing his team from reaching their potential.

While granted, they’ve improved as the campaign has rolled on, it’s undeniable that they’re still missing something.

And their former right-back thinks he knows exactly what this is.

Glen Johnson thinks Declan Rice should sign for Liverpool

At the peak of his powers, Johnson carried remarkable pace while regularly utilising his phenomenal footballing IQ. Therefore, when it comes to ‘the beautiful game’, he knows what he’s talking about.

So it goes without saying that Klopp should take note and put his money where his mouth is to secure the signature of England international, Declan Rice.

Speaking to King Casino Bonus, he said: “If it’s not Jude Bellingham, it has to be a totally different type of player or signing. Declan Rice is the name that springs to mind. Those two deals will be big financial deals, and Liverpool will want to put themselves into this race. If they don’t get either player, they should focus on a rebuild with two or three more players.”

With ferocious strength and the ability to pick out the perfect pass, the 24-year-old would make an impact in whatever side he played for. Therefore, ‘The Hammers’ might want to think twice before letting him go.

Johnson added: “West Ham can’t look for an actual replacement for Declan Rice because I don’t think there is one. Similar to what Liverpool need to do in light of their Jude Bellingham omission, they need to do the best deal they can that brings the most money to rebuild, West Ham are in a transition period where they would need to spend wisely on about three or four players that can rebuild and push the team.”
