Glorious spinning kick tipped to be UFC knockout of the year

Ignacio Bahamondes set the combat sports world on fire over the weekend with an incredible spinning kick knockout in the UFC.

The 23-year-old, who lost his full UFC debut to John Makdessi earlier this year via split decision, clearly wanted to go out there and make an emphatic statement in order to impress the UFC front office. The Chilean was putting together some nice combinations during his three-round battle with Roosevelt Roberts and yet, while he was favoured to the nod on the judges’ scorecards, the man himself wasn’t ready to leave his fate in their hands.

KO of the year?

With less than 10 seconds remaining in the fight, Bahamondes elegantly delivered a magnificent wheel kick that put Roberts’ lights out and condemned him to his third straight defeat inside the octagon.

On the flip side, “La Jaula” was left to celebrate what can only be described as the biggest win of his career thus far.

We’ve all seen some pretty tremendous finishes in years gone by within the mixed martial arts sphere and especially in the UFC. As such it’s not hard to recognise a special moment when you see one, and Ignacio Bahamondes certainly provided the masses with that on Saturday night.

There have been some almighty knockouts this year already with Kamaru Usman’s win over Jorge Masvidal being the first that comes to mind, but in terms of the leading 2021 contenders, Bahamondes has to be up there.
