‘Goal’ scriptwriter reportedly set to produce film about Jamie Vardy

A scriptwriter from the film Goal has reportedly agreed to produce a film about Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy.

The report, published by the Daily Mirror, says that plans for a box office film about the Foxes and Vardy are in the works, and several big names from within the industry are said to be involved.

It also says that One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson is in the mix to play Vardy.

Adrian Butchart, who wrote the scripts for the iconic football films which tell the story of Santiago Muñez, has reportedly agreed to make the film.

It has been another successful season for Vardy. He won the FA Cup with Leicester for the first time in his career, becoming the first player ever to play in all 13 rounds of the competition.

That adds to the fairytale Premier League title he lifted back in 2016 under the management of Claudio Ranieri.

Of course, this is not the first time that rumours have been rife about a Vardy film.

Back in 2016, it was reported that former Wimbledon midfielder Vinnie Jones had been lined up to play Vardy’s former Foxes boss Nigel Pearson in the film.

Butchart said at the time that “as long as everything goes to plan, we would like to see it released this time next year”.

Those plans haven’t come to fruition as of yet, but these latest developments will come as a boost to fans hoping to see the 31-year-old represented on the big screen at some point.

Now it seems as if Vardy (or whichever actor would play him) could be taking a step closer to following in ‘Goal’ hero Santiago Munez’s footsteps.

Whether Gavin Harris makes a long-awaited return or not, we’ll have to wait and see.
