National League side Halifax Town have announced that forward Jamie Allen has joined the cast of Love Island for the current series.
The Shaymen finished fourth in the fifth tier of English football last term, therefore qualifying for the play-offs. However, they lost in the quarter-finals to Chesterfield. Subsequently, manager Pete Wild left the club to join League Two side Barrow.
Now, one of their players – who only signed a new contract last month – has decided to quit pre-season and join the Love Island villa instead.
Jamie Allen is one of the show’s four new ‘bombshells’, and will appear on TV screens up and down the country in the coming days.
The 27-year-old will, therefore, be unavailable for Halifax whilst he is away. The club then released a brief statement on Twitter, with its tone making it pretty clear as to their feelings.
They said: “Jamie Allen has decided to join the cast of Love Island 2022, making his intentions clear that the opportunity is very important to him.
“The matter will be reviewed on his return.”
Halifax Town footballer joins Love Island
There is no doubting that going on Love Island is a pretty lucrative business these days, particularly for those who get TV exposure over most of the series.
The show opens up brand and influencing opportunities, and elevates contestants into the public eye in a way that normally wouldn’t be possible.
But Twitter still took the opportunity, of course, to react to the news.
Non-league journalist Thomas Feaheny wrote: “FC Halifax Town’s Jamie Allen joining Love Island for a bit, again only in Non-League.”
Another wrote: “Jamie Allen has abandoned FC Halifax Town’s pre-season to join Love Island. Erm?? No words.”
And a third wrote: “June 9th, 2022 – Jamie Allen extends his contract with Halifax Town. July 20th, 2022 – Jamie Allen enters the Love Island villa. Priorities.”
