Harry Maguire posts bizarre tweet asking fans if they want a free taco

After England‘s Euro 2020 penalty shootout defeat to Italy, the players and staff were understandably gutted to lose a final in that manner.

And the following morning, many players took to Twitter to share their emotions and feelings.

England captain Harry Kane spoke of how the team has “come so far and broken so many barriers”, before thanking the fans for their support.

Jordan Henderson tweeted that he was “so proud” of the entire group, and added that it has been “incredible” to take part in Euro 2020.

Declan Rice, meanwhile, posted a lengthy message and explained how the last four weeks have been “the best time of my entire life”.

He added: “It’s been a true honour to represent our country at a major tournament and together we’ve all created memories that will last a lifetime.

“We win together and lose together, and although it’s painful today this is just the start for this squad and we will be back better, stronger and ready to go again.”

Harry Maguire also got involved, thanking the fans for their support and vowing that the team will be back.

Upon learning he had been included in UEFA’s Team of the Tournament, he simply tweeted: “Proud”.

Maguire’s taco tweet

Then, later this morning, Maguire’s account posted a tweet promoting a free taco from Taco Bell.

The post was captioned it: “Thank you England. You cheered your heart out. Now eat your heart out. Get a free taco today. #iSeeaTaco”.

Understandably, as is always the case when footballers send out posts such as this, there were plenty of hilarious comments.

One sarcastically bemoaned the lack of free tacos prior to Euro 2020, and thanked Maguire for helping him to “believe once more”.

Another pointed out that other food products are available from other retailers.

And here are some of the other reactions:
