In newly resurfaced footage, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner can be seen challenging his inner stunt driver in a hilarious Sky Sports F1 video.
He impressively managed to drive an Aston Martin sports car on two wheels – pretty easily, as it turned out.
In recent weeks, Horner has had plenty to celebrate. The team’s car is one of the top two fastest on the grid, with the results to back it up.
Reigning world champion Max Verstappen currently leads the 2022 standings, with his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez in third. The Dutchman already has four wins to his name this season. Perez, meanwhile, took his first victory of the year last weekend.
By winning the Monaco Grand Prix, ‘Checo’ became the first Mexican ever to win Formula 1’s most famous race.
As a result of the drivers’ good form, Red Bull are sat comfortably at the top of the Constructors’ Championship standings. They have 235 points after seven rounds, holding a 36-point advantage over second-placed Ferrari.
All this winning is fun for Red Bull supporters, where the team boasts a sizeable global fanbase. This is undoubtedly helped by their willingness to get involved in shoots and events away from the track and on it.
Christian Horner: man for the camera
Team Principal Christian Horner is never shy of jumping in front of the cameras. He is an ever-present fixture on the popular Netflix series Drive to Survive, which documents the F1 season.
Additionally, Sky Sports often have direct contact with Horner during Grand Prix races, where Red Bull’s principal watches from the pit wall. Horner’s presence on F1 coverage is usually box office viewing, whether fans love him or loathe him.
In 2018, Sky Sports got Horner in for one of their pre-race shoots that they show in the build-up to a Grand Prix. In this episode, they gave the Red Bull man the opportunity to drive an Aston Martin sports car.
The catch? He will learn to drive the vehicle on two wheels. Sky reposted the clip recently to see it in all its glory.
Red Bull boss drives car on two wheels
In the hilarious footage, a stunt driver gives Horner guidance on keeping the car moving in an unusual fashion.
After hitting the ramp to raise the car onto one side of its tyres, Red Bull’s boss had a brief period of success. He travelled a short distance on two tyres before slamming back down to the more conventional four.
But that was not good enough for Sky Sports presenter and former F1 driver Martin Brundle. He told Christian Horner that he needed to get the car so far on two wheels that he used the stabilising wheel. This was attached to the side of the Aston Martin to prevent it from rolling.
“That is the most unnatural thing you will ever do in a road car!” exclaimed an exasperated Horner.
To be fair, he managed to pull it off. Utilising the stabiliser, Horner succeeded in driving the Aston on two wheels, impressing Brundle and his instructor.
We don’t think he will be passing on his newfound skill to his drivers for the next race, though.
