Footage has emerged of Aston Villa fans mocking Cristiano Ronaldo‘s iconic celebration after their side’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Dean Smith’s pulled off a superb win over the Red Devils to inflict a first home defeat of the season on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Kortney Hause scored a late winner for Villa. Bruno Fernandes then saw his stoppage time penalty saved by Emiliano Martinez, who celebrated in front of the United fans.
It was also the first time that Ronaldo has failed to score for United since his return to the club on transfer deadline. Prior to Saturday’s clash, he had scored four goals in three appearances.
That meant that fans could not witness his infamous celebration, where he lifts both arms into the air before shouting ‘SIIUUU’.
Villa fans could not help but mock the celebration after their victory, which lifted them up to eighth in the Premier League table.
Footage has emerged of several people taking turns to do the celebration outside the ground, cheered on by a large group of fans.
Dean Smith on Villa victory
Villa manager Dean Smith said that his side “deserved” the win – the first time the club have tasted victory at Old Trafford for 12 years.
On that occasion, the Villans also won 1-0, with Gabriel Agbonlahor scoring the only goal of the match.
Smith told BBC Sport: “I thought we deserved the win today. We were aggressive and brave and you have to be coming here.
“I thought it was a very harsh penalty [given to United]. I’m not sure where he is supposed to put his arms when it flashes across. For me, justice was done when he missed it.
“We caused them problems from set pieces all game but the biggest thing for me is the bravery we showed coming here and going toe-to-toe with them.”
