How many Grand Slams Novak Djokovic has won – and when he won them

Novak Djokovic will be looking for another Grand Slam success when he takes on Nick Kyrgios in the 2022 Wimbledon men’s singles final – but how many Grand Slams has he already won?

Djokovic is one of the greatest tennis players of all-time. He has a total of 87 career titles to his name. He has also been world number one for a combined 373 weeks – a record – throughout his professional tennis career.

The 35-year-old’s talent was identified from a young age. He then quickly became part of the ‘big four’ of tennis, alongside Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray. The four players have had a hold over tennis for most of the 21st century.

Whilst the other three players have had struggles in recent times, primarily with injury, Djokovic is still in his prime years.

In 2021, for instance, the Serbian almost pulled off an almost unheard-of achievement in tennis. That is because he went unbeaten in the opening three Grand Slams of the season, before reaching the final of the US Open.

However, he failed to clinch the remarkable record of winning all four Grand Slams in a season – known as a calendar Slam. Only five players have achieved the record before, and it last occurred in 1969. He lost the final to Medvedev in straight sets.

But how many Grand Slams has Djokovic won throughout his career. When did he win each one? Let’s take a look:

How many Grand Slams has Novak Djokovic won?

Novak Djokovic has won a total of 20 Grand Slams during his professional tennis career. Only Nadal (22) has more. Djokovic is joint-second in the record books alongside Federer. In addition, he will move into second place outright if he defeats Kyrgios on Sunday.

His first Grand Slam victory was in the year of 2008. On that occasion, Djokovic defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the Australian Open inside four sets.

It took him until 2011 to win his second Grand Slam. Djokovic won against Murray to claim his second Australian Open. After successfully defending his title against Nadal a year later, he had five Grand Slams to his name.
