‘I was the most hungover man in the world!’: Ben Foster makes massive revelation after epic comeback

Ben Foster made a magical return to football on Saturday, despite going out on an alcohol-fuelled bender the weekend prior.

Since initially hanging up the boots, the 39-year-old has crafted a second career as a popular podcast host. But after receiving a DM from Ryan Reynolds himself, he made the call to go back to what he does best. And his first match couldn’t have gone much better.

The goalkeeper kept a clean sheet, making good saves against Ryan Fallowfield and Mitch Hancox as his side dismantled York City 3-0.

In the aftermath of the game, the man between the sticks claimed playing football was very different from how he’d spent his previous Saturday.

In a clip uploaded on the Rob Ryan Red’s podcast TikTok channel, he said: “A week ago today, it was Gold Cup Friday on Cheltenham, and we had an all-dayer.

“So I was the most hungover man in the world last Saturday. So this is a massive contrast to what that was like last week.”

The win widened the distance at the top of the National League table. Currently, Wrexham stand three points ahead of the pack, with a game in hand. And now, with Foster fending off opposition strikers, they look likely to win the entire thing.

His shock move comes just a month after he turned down Tottenham’s offer to cover for injured goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

And while the former Manchester United man is used to the big bucks, he isn’t overly concerned about taking on a job for less money.

Foster claimed: “I don’t need much (money) – to be honest. The negotiations took about five minutes. Wageswise, it’s literally peanuts… the part for me is getting the team over the line and getting them promoted. I’m a very low-maintenance player – just wheel me out, I’ll do a job.”
