Inter Milan have dropped their new kit which they will wear on away days throughout 2023/24 – and it marks the return of an iconic club style.
After reaching the Champions League Final in 2022/23, many might have expected a summer of arrivals to reinforce the team for a title charge. However, this has not been the case thus far.
Instead, Inter’s rocky finances have led to the exit of some key pieces. Andre Onana leaves the No.1 spot up for grabs after joining Manchester United. Similarly, Marcelo Brozovic creates a void in midfield following a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.
Experienced players such as Milan Skriniar, Edin Dzeko, and Romelu Lukaku have all left San Siro as well.
Nevertheless, the Nerazzurri will always enter a season with aspirations of silverware. And this year they have another top-notch away kit in which to do it.
Inter revealed their new 2023/24 away kit to the world on Monday. And they have gone back to a traditional look for the upcoming season.
Revealed: the Inter 2023/24 away kit
Simone Inzaghi’s side have returned to a white alternate strip for this campaign – a favourite that the club has used throughout its history. The kit is all-white, in fact, with the shorts and socks matching the top’s base colour.
Additional retro-inspired elements come in the form of a sash. Two diagonal stripes, one blue, one black, dissect the jersey. This design has been a staple of Inter kits for generations; we will get to that later, though.
Interestingly, this sash has a modern twist in the form of a gradient graphic. This cool effect allows the Nerazzurri’s new sponsor, “Paramount+”, to stand out in the centre of the kit unopposed.
Meanwhile, the Inter badge sits at the top of the diagonal design, with the Nike tick and Coppa Italia winners emblem on the opposite side of the chest.
This kit is a modern twist on what is a classically retro Internazionale design. The white & sash combo is a frequent Inter alternate and dates back almost 60 years.
We’ve seen this before, haven’t we?
White is almost ever-present when it comes to Inter Milan’s change strips. But the return of the blue/black diagonal sash across the front is a style that we have not seen for ten years.
Nike last utilised this look for the Serie A giant’s 2011/12 away (2012/13 third) strip. Back then, Pirelli was still the club’s sponsor, and the kit had a smart, black collar to go alongside it.
Even in 2011/12, the US sportswear marque was harking back to another kit from 2003. This 2023/24 Inter away kit will also evoke memories of Umbro’s fine alternates for the club from the 1990s.
When did Internazionale first have a white kit with the sash, though? According to Football Kit Archive, the first instance of this template was in 1963/64 – 60 years ago. So, is Nike celebrating the anniversary of this legendary design?
That may be the case, but one thing is for sure; Inter will look the business throughout 2023/24 in this away kit.
