Mikel Arteta was furious with the referee

In the 78th minute, Eberechi Eze was brought down by Dávid Hancko inside the box, resulting in the referee awarding a penalty. However, the monitor was checked, with the crowd and Diego Simeone campaigning for the verdict to be reversed.

In the end, the decision was overturned, leaving Mikel Arteta absolutely livid.

Following the game, he participated in an interview with TNT Sports, in which he didn’t hold back from venting his frustrations.

The former player fumed: “I’m extremely disappointed and annoyed because it was against the rules, and I don’t understand it. It changes the course of the tie, so I’m very upset.

“The whole sequence, you make the decision, you can not overturn the decision when you have to look at it 13 times. At this level, it’s completely unacceptable.”

When asked if the referee was influenced by the crowd, the Spaniard replied: “I don’t know, that’s an answer for him. But obviously, it’s a wrong decision and it changes the course of the tie.”
