Tyson Fury’s father John has suggested Conor McGregor “copied” boxing heavyweight legend Mike Tyson before complimenting his rise to prominence.
John Fury has always been one of the most entertaining voices in the sport of boxing ever since his son really started to come up through the ranks and now, in the midst of the YouTube boxing madness, John seems to be popping up here, there and everywhere.
Everyone loves Big John Fury
He’s never held his tongue with regards to giving his thoughts on the boxing and mixed martial arts landscape and while he may not understand quite as much about the latter as he does the former, that doesn’t mean he can’t come out with some hot takes.
During a recent chat with JOE, Fury spoke about Conor McGregor and how well he’s done to get to the point he’s at today.
“Conor McGregor, he watched Tyson’s persona and his life and I think he copied Tyson to a degree. Because he liked Tyson’s outspokenness and he took it to another level,” he said.
“He was there at the right time, Conor, but again, very clever, very articulate, clever guy. And he’s good at what he does. And he’s great to look at, isn’t he?
“He’s a great watch, love him. Great stuff, especially throwing chairs at buses. He’s taken MMA outside. The only guy that I know that’s fought a bus. Only in Ireland.”
The next time we’re likely to see John Fury is in the build-up to the return of “The Gypsy King” when he battles Deontay Wilder in their trilogy bout on October 9.
